Rebecca Pinals
Schmidt Science Postdoctoral Fellow

Rebecca received her BS in Chemical Engineering from Brown University (2016) and her PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from UC Berkeley as an NSF Graduate Research Fellow (2021). During her PhD work with Prof. Markita Landry, she developed a fundamental understanding of how engineered nanotechnologies interact with the biological systems they are designed to query. In turn, this knowledge of biomolecule-nanomaterial interfacial interactions enabled development of more robust nanosensor constructs. Rebecca is currently interested in developing probes to investigate the mechanistic underpinnings of Alzheimer’s Disease in human brain models, providing the requisite spatial, temporal, and chemical detail on biomarkers during disease onset and progression.
