I developed a fascination with the complexities of animal behavior during my high school and undergraduate studies and became interested in studying the interface between animal behavior and neurophysiology, and neurobiology. I followed this interest in my Ph.D thesis research, undertaking a project to unveil the mechanisms that maintain the sensory experience (novel taste memory trace) for an association with an upcoming bodily status such as illness or nausea, which would occur many minutes later, in taste aversion learning using rodent models (mice and rats). In the Tsai lab, I investigate how visual sensory stimuli induce entrainment of gamma oscillations, and impact neurodegenerative pathology and cognition.
